Delta Launches Nonstop JFK–Porto Flights from 21 May
Delta Air Lines launched nonstop service between New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Porto (OPO) on 21 May 2026, marking the first time a US carrier has flown this pairing nonstop from JFK. The route runs as a seasonal summer service, with Delta operating its JFK hub as the sole US gateway for the connection.
Why this route matters
Before this launch, travelers from New York reaching Porto nonstop had to use Lisbon as the entry point and connect onwards, or fly via London or another European hub. Delta’s new route cuts total travel time significantly for anyone whose primary destination is the Douro Valley, Minho, Trás-os-Montes or the Douro coastline north of Lisbon. Porto is also the nearest gateway for Viana do Castelo and the Gerês national park.
Delta already runs year-round daily service between JFK and Lisbon and seasonal service from Boston, but Porto has long been the missing piece for North American visitors wanting to begin a trip in the north without routing through the capital first.
Flight details
The route is operated by a Boeing 767-300ER configured across four cabins: 26 lie-flat Delta One business suites, 18 Delta Premium Select recliners, 21 Comfort Plus extra-legroom seats, and 151 main cabin seats. Flight DL114 departs JFK at 10:25 PM and arrives in Porto at 10:30 AM the following morning. The return, DL115, departs Porto at 12:25 PM and lands at JFK at 3:15 PM — a schedule that makes the most of an overnight crossing in both directions.
Booking is available on delta.com and through standard fare comparison tools — we recommend checking flexible-date views, as transatlantic fares on new routes tend to price more variably in their first weeks of operation. Delta One fares include lounge access at JFK’s Delta One Lounge. Delta SkyMiles members earn miles across all fare classes.
American Airlines also coming to Porto
Delta is not alone in spotting Porto’s potential. American Airlines has announced a future nonstop route to Porto from a US gateway, planned to launch more than a year from now, using the Airbus A321XLR. When that launches, it will add competition that is likely to benefit fares on the North Atlantic Porto corridor. For summer 2026, Delta’s JFK service currently has no direct US competitor.
What to do on arrival
Porto is easily navigated on foot and by metro. The historic Ribeira district, the wine lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia and the Douro River frontage are all within a short reach of Campanhã rail station, which connects to the airport via the metro’s Violet Line in around 30 minutes for €2.15. The Douro Valley wine country begins roughly an hour east of Porto by car or regional train.
