Faro Airport (FAO) is the gateway to the Algarve, handling over 10 million passengers per year in peak season. Unlike Lisbon and Porto, Faro has no metro connection - taxi, private transfer, shuttle, or the local bus are the main options into the region.
Bus - Cheapest Route Into Faro City
Proximo Line 14 and 16 run from the airport bus stop (outside the terminal) to Faro city centre bus station.

- Journey time: 10–15 minutes to Faro centre
- Frequency: roughly every 30 minutes during daylight hours; reduced service evenings and Sundays
- Onwards from Faro: Eva Transportes coaches link Faro bus station to Albufeira (1 hour), Portimão (1h30), Lagos (2 hours), Tavira (45 minutes), and other destinations. A through journey to Albufeira costs approximately €6–8.
Best for: Solo travellers staying in Faro itself or those comfortable with the onward coach connection.

Uber & Rideshare
Uber and Bolt operate at Faro Airport but are less reliable here than in Lisbon or Porto. Driver availability is inconsistent, particularly late at night and during peak-season surges. Pick-up is from a designated zone outside Arrivals.
- Cost to Albufeira: approximately €45–65 (often close to taxi rates, sometimes higher with surge)
- Cost to Vilamoura: approximately €25–35
- Recommendation: if you are travelling to a resort more than 30km away, a pre-booked private transfer is usually more reliable and can be similarly priced
Shared Shuttle Transfers
Shared shuttles are widely used for Faro Airport due to the resort distances. You share with other passengers and are dropped off in sequence.

- Journey time: 60–90 minutes to Albufeira (multiple drops), 90–120 minutes to Lagos

For most resort visitors - particularly families and groups - a pre-booked private transfer is the most practical option from Faro Airport.
