Starting 21 May 2026, Delta Air Lines will operate its first-ever daily nonstop service between New York John F. Kennedy Airport and Porto Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO). For American travellers, this means direct access to northern Portugal without a connection through Lisbon or another European hub — a meaningful change for anyone wanting to explore the north of the country first.

The route is operated by a Boeing 767-300ER across four cabins: 26 lie-flat Delta One business suites, 18 Delta Premium Select recliners, 21 Comfort Plus extra-legroom seats, and 151 main cabin seats. Flight DL114 departs JFK at 10:25 PM and arrives in Porto at 10:30 AM the following morning. The return, DL115, departs Porto at 12:25 PM and lands at JFK at 3:15 PM — a schedule that makes the most of an overnight crossing in both directions.

Delta already runs year-round daily service between JFK and Lisbon and seasonal service from Boston, but Porto has long been the missing piece for North American visitors who want to begin their trip in the north without routing through the capital first.

A direct landing in Porto changes the shape of a Portugal itinerary considerably. The city itself rewards two or three days of exploration — the Ribeira waterfront, the port wine cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia across the Douro, the azulejo-covered São Bento train station, and the view from the Clérigos Tower. From Porto it is roughly an hour east by road or rail into the Douro Valley vineyards, and a similar distance north to the linen-town beaches of the Minho coast.

Porto’s Sá Carneiro Airport connects to the city centre by Metro Line E, which runs to the Trindade interchange in around 35 minutes for €2.15. Taxis and rideshares are available outside arrivals. Terminal transfers are straightforward, with no inter-terminal buses required.

Seats are now open for booking on delta.com. We recommend checking availability early — new transatlantic summer routes sell quickly, and Delta One fares include lounge access at JFK’s Delta One lounge. Delta SkyMiles members earn miles across all fare classes.
